Shredding Tires

Today the President called
for the end of a war
that I have spent
a decade trying to drone out.
I will get black-out drunk tonight.
I remember being in Mexico
when the war began
and since it has proven
me right about the human
race; I tried one night
to write all the names on the
casualty list but my hand started
cramping so badly I had to
take an aspirin and go to bed.

Mexico is at war and
I am drinking as quickly as possible.
I am an American, full
of courage and resolve,
only I am hardly proud of
my country and I believe perseverance
is a stubborn, ass-hole's way to
kill himself slowly, like arsenic
dripping into the aquifer
from the embalming fluid
resting where our ancestors laid before
they decayed into compost.
Drink and drink it up.

I am much happier watching
our pup chase after honey bees
and wagging at the bigger hounds
across the road. This town drags so heavy
when the sun gets so hot.
The tires that move us
are flat and starting to shred.
